A section of Bethnal Green Road was closed yesterday after Storm Bert’s strong winds blew scaffolding loose from a building.

Emergency services, including police and fire crews, were called to the scene at 4.47pm on Sunday (November 25) after the scaffolding was left hanging over the footpath.

A cordon was in place from just before the Halifax branch to past a German Doner Kebab shop, covering both sides of the road.

During the incident, Tower Hamlets Council urged residents to avoid the area, warning of ongoing road closures.

The incident comes as Storm Bert brought winds of up to 60mph across the UK this weekend.

In a statement on X, the council said: "We have been made aware that some scaffolding on Bethnal Green Road has been blown by strong winds away from the wall. Police and London Fire Brigade colleagues are on scene and there are some road closures – please avoid the area and take extra care in these strong winds."
