A road in Bethnal Green has been cordoned off as strong storm winds have left scaffolding hanging precariously off the side of a building.
Emergency services including police, ambulance and fire service responders have swarmed Bethnal Green Road today (November 24).
A cordon has been erected from just before the Halifax branch and past a German Doner Kebab shop, encompassing both sides of the road whilst the scene is assessed.
Footage from the road has captured some scaffolding up the side of a building having come away, twisting and arching over dangerously.
It is believed that the scaffolding was erected in front of a former butchers shop.
A photo, taken minutes apart from the video, has shown the scaffolding being supported by a single lamppost which has stopped it from completely collapsing onto the pavement.
Tower Hamlets Council has warned residents of the incident.
They wrote on X: "We have been made aware that some scaffolding on Bethnal Green Road has been blown by strong winds away from the wall.
"Police and London Fire Brigade colleagues are on scene and there are some road closures - please avoid the area and take extra care in these strong winds."
It comes as Storm Bert continues to batter the UK this weekend, bringing with it winds of up to 60mph.
An amber weather alert was issued earlier today for areas of London and is expected to remain in place until 9pm this evening.
According to the Met Office, the London forecast reads: “South to southwesterly winds will be strong and gusty throughout Sunday, easing from the west through the afternoon and early evening as a band of heavy rain associated with a weather front clears eastwards.”
Local bus route the 388 is on diversion as a result of "an object obstructing traffic".
TfL has advised commuters that the bus service will take passengers via High Street, Hackney Road and Cambridge Heath Road.
