Two men have been jailed after a "brutal" attack on a man and a woman, inflicting severe injuries using metal poles and a knife.

Hasan Murad, 23, of Bethnal Green, and Abdul Hussain Khan, 24, of Whitechapel, were jailed for a total of 25 years after a violent burglary in Stratford, Newham.

Murad received 14 years and six months and Khan was given 11 years at Snaresbrook Crown Court on April 3.

Both were found guilty on September 6 last year of grievous bodily harm and aggravated burglary, which occurred on June 11 in 2022.

The pair had forced their way into a Stratford home and "viciously" attacked a man and a woman with metal poles.

Detective Chief Inspector Claudine Davie said: "This was a heinous attack that used brutal violence.

"We hope the sentences handed to Murad and Khan gives the victims in this case the justice that they deserve," she added.

Khan had stabbed the man in the armpit which caused an arterial bleed, police said, and the victims were both left with severe injuries.

Murad and Khan then left and took items from the victims with them, including phones and a driving license.

Police responded with a manhunt and found the pair responsible.

The force used phone data to find and arrest them in July 2022, and the victims bravely identified the defendants while they were in custody.

Detective Constable Richard Brunning, who lead the investigation, said:  “I’d like to thank the prosecution for their great work as well as Social Services for supporting the victims.

"But most of all I want to commend the victims for their bravery in coming forward," he added.

DCI Davie joined in thanking DC Brunning for his "tireless work" in finding the men responsible.

“I’d like to thank DC Brunning who was the officer in charge of this case for his tireless work.

I’d also like to thank the team in the Predatory Offender Unit for apprehending these dangerous individuals, arresting them and taking them off the streets,” she added.
