An IOPC spokesperson confirmed today (January 5) that they are assessing the incident referral.
The spokesperson said: “We’ve received a mandatory referral from the Metropolitan Police Service relating to an incident where a police van was in collision with a pedestrian on 3 January on Bethnal Green Road, east London.
"According to the referral, the driver of the police van was responding to an urgent callout at the time of the collision with the pedestrian, who was injured and taken to hospital.
"We are currently assessing the referral and will decide whether further action is required from us.”
