A list of the top 100 Bangladeshis in Britain was unveiled by Cllr Abdal Ullah at an event in the Houses of Parliament.
The publication of the list follows three months of nominations that saw residents nominate their most inspirational British Bangladeshis.
The winners were announced by Baroness Syeda Warsi, Danny Alexander MP, Anne Main MP, Dame Tessa Jowell MP and Mijarul Quayes, Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK.
The British Bangladeshi Power and Inspiration 2014 showcases talent across 20 categories including politics, business, innovation, sport, culture and restaurateurs.
People’s Choice awards, voted for by members of the public, were given five people including London Fulbright Scholar Kawsar Zaman and Shabina Begum, a barrister and Acid Victim Campaigner in London.
Other well-known winners include Lutfur Rahman, mayor of Tower Hamlets, Asif Anwar Ahmed, UK ambassador to Thailand, sports journalist Mihir Bose and Formula 4 racing driver Zubair Hoque.
Cllr Ullah, founder of the project, said: “In the 2014 BB Power and Inspiration you will find 100 bright, ambitious and successful British Bangladeshi names across 20 categories demonstrating the dynamic, entrepreneurial, philanthropic, pioneering and innovative nature of our community.
“Thank you to everyone who took part in the People’s Choice. We have found some amazing role models to showcase.”
