Sion Jones capped a remarkable fightback for the Hackney Marshes club to help them move up to third in the standings
Sporting Hackney had to work hard to remain unbeaten in the Middlesex County Football League Premier Division last weekend after a 3-2 victory at home to Lampton Park.
Lampton Park were second before the match and full of confidence, which reflected in their strong start at Hackney Marshes.
The Parrots scored an own-goal to open the scoring before switching off to allow the visitors to double their advantage.
With boss Peter Harrington and assistant Daniel Portsmouth showing their frustration on the touchline, Hackney eventually found their form.
The excellent Paul Barry found the net before half time to give Parrots some momentum going into the second half.
And after a stern talk at the break, Harrington’s team equalised in the 47th minute when Sam Edwards headed home at the back post.
It was all Hackney now with the hosts creating chance after chance and hitting the woodwork twice through Joe Tousent and Sion Jones.
Joshua Anderson also had a header ruled out for offside, until Harrington and Portsmouth were finally able to celebrate.
Hackney defended a Lampton corner well and broke quickly before Jones finished off excellently to earn a 3-2 victory.
It sparked wild celebrations as the home side moved up to third in the table ahead of facing the leaders FC Assyria next.
Harrington said: “We did not get off to the best of starts and both Portsmouth and I felt the boys had let themselves down.
“But they responded superbly to battle back and take all three points and that take us in to next week’s huge game against FC Assyria full of confidence.”
