Stroudley Walk in Bow is now owned by Tower Hamlets Council.
With a 19,000-long waiting list for new homes it is a council that says it is doing all it can to build new council homes.
But on this site the council is only proposing to build 284 new homes, 50 per cent of which could be affordable.
This is very odd as the site has excellent transport connections and being publicly owned land can maximise the delivery of new affordable homes.
Elsewhere in areas with less good transport links, the council has given planning permission for much denser developments that won't deliver such high levels of affordable housing.
If we were to apply the lowest density approved on the Isle of Dogs, we could build 450 new homes on this site.
If we are serious about the housing crisis the council needs to build more new homes here.
